New Engine Upgrades in the 2020 Toyota Tundra

Power to Haul

When you’re hauling 10,000 lbs, you need the assurance that your truck can handle everything in its path. Thankfully, the 2020 Toyota Tundra was built to tow, haul, and transport everything you can hook up to a trailer or throw in its heavy-duty bed.

Powering the 2020 Tundra is Toyota’s tried and true 346 cubic-inch 5.7L V8 engine that is capable of towing more than 10,000 lbs. Turning out 381hp at 5,600rpm and 401lb-ft of peak torque at 3,600rpm, the i-FORCE V8 engine derives its power from a host of technologies and engineering marvels to provide maximum power and towing capability while providing optimum fuel efficiency. The brawny powerhouse uses an aluminum block to save weight, while double-overhead-cam heads feature four valves per cylinder to allow optimum intake and exhaust flow.

A Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence works to independently time valve cycles depending on engine load and power demand to provide power when you need it, and fuel efficiency when you don’t.

In addition, an Acoustic Control Induction System provides a broad torque curve, so peak engine torque is always at the ready. The 5.7L i-FORCE V8 is paired to an electronically controlled heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission that helps to keep the 5.7L powerhouse at the optimum engine speed. Wherever you cruise, and whatever you tow, you can do so knowing you have an engineering marvel under the hood of your 2020 Toyota Tundra.

Putting Power to the Ground

The standard Tow Package adds engine and transmission oil coolers to ensure that you can tow heavy loads with confidence. The heavy-duty TripleTech® frame integrates a tow-hitch receiver and a trailer hitch secured by 12 high-strength bolts that go directly into the frame. Ensuring maximum power reaches the ground, an Automatic Limited-Slip Differential comes standard on every 2020 Toyota Tundra to ensure that your truck most effectively puts power to the ground.

The Auto LSD is more than just a mechanical differential that limits wheel spin. It allows the Tundra to apply brakes to wheels with no traction, allowing you to be in full command both on and off the road. Although the system may appear to be high-tech, it utilizes the brakes rather than added components, resulting in a lower overall cost of ownership.

Blending Practicality and Functionality

The cockpit features a combination meter that features a voltmeter, engine oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, and a coolant temperature gauge, so you will always know your Tundra’s vitals. The 2020 Toyota Tundra features available Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC) and standard Trailer Sway Control (TSC), so you can stay in control of your Tundra and whatever it is hauling. These features allow you to adjust the amount of trailer braking based on the weight of your load. They will also detect trailer sway and apply brake pressure to individual wheels to ensure that everything is stabilized.
