Affordable Driving Fun

The 2022 Toyota Corolla continues the tradition of being an affordable compact vehicle that is fun to drive. The automaker offers several trims and packages for buyers to easily build a front-wheel-drive Corolla that meets their needs. Buyers also can choose a four-door sedan or hatchback body style. It is even available in an eco-friendly hybrid model for drivers who want to spend less time at the pump. All models come standard with plenty of tech and safety features, continuing the automaker’s commitment to quality.

Fuel-Sipping Performance

The Corolla comes with a few powertrain options. Most models come standard with the 1.8-liter four-cylinder that delivers 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. The top trims, like the XSE and XSE Apex Edition, come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Buyers who choose a Corolla hybrid trim get the 1.8-liter four-cylinder, but the engine delivers less horsepower and torque, despite the models coming with Normal, Power, and Eco driving modes.

Regardless of the powertrain, all Corolla models get good gas mileage due to the CVT transmission. The EPA-estimated fuel economy on the 1.8-liter engine without the hybrid powertrain gets 30/38 MPG. Adding the hybrid and the ECVT transmission bumps the EPA-estimated fuel economy to a whopping 53/52. The 2.0-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated 31/38 MPG. For drivers who enjoy a manual transmission, they can choose any of the Corolla SE trims which have optional six-speed stick shifts. The rest of the trims come with an automatic transmission.

Comfortable Interior with Attractive Styling

The 2022 Corolla might be a compact car, but it has plenty of room on the inside. Five passengers share 88.6 cubic feet of interior space, while the cargo volume in the sedan’s trunk measures 13.1 cubic feet. The hatchback has 18 cubic feet of cargo space, so drivers who need more backseat space should opt for the sedan.

Each Corolla hatchback and sedan have an attractive interior with a minimalistic dashboard and push-button start. The upgraded trims have ambient interior lighting and heated front seats. The base models come with fabric-trimmed seats, while the SE models come with premium sport seats, and the XLE and XSE come with SofTex-trimmed seats. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 configuration for added cargo room.

Filled with Standard Technology

The 2022 Toyota Corolla features notable standard technology. All models start with a standard seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Bluetooth. They all have at least one USB media port and one USB charging port. Buyers can add an upgraded tech package with wireless charging, an eight-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium JBL audio system. All trims from the SE and up have a standard eight-inch touchscreen and six speakers.

Loaded with Safety Features

Toyota added the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 driver-assistance features to all Corolla models. This suite includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Buyers can add an available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. All models come with an integrated backup camera with projected path technology.

With so many safety features, it’s easy to see why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 Corolla an overall five-star safety rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not yet rated the 2022 model, but the IIHS named the 2021 Corolla sedan models a Top Safety Pick. As the safety features are similar to the 2022 model year, buyers can expect a similar rating from the respected organization.
